Talk to Your Neighbors

Expansion!

When this section of the on-line Forum page was designed, the intention was to focus on Highway 101 business and activities.  Almost immediately others in the local business community saw the benefit of a Business Forum “electronic bulletin board” that would contain information useful to all Solana businesses, that gave businesses a vehicle to talk with each other about common concerns, and that also provided a vehicle to make their concerns heard by others.

Consequently, the scope of the Business Forum, from this issue on, will become a voice for the entire Solana Beach business community.  Representatives from the various merchant associations, including the Cedros, Plaza and the Towne Center shopping areas, will be responsible for News and Events about their members, as well as for updating information on their members.  The on-line Forum will be updated monthly but new information concerning individual businesses will be updated immediately.

A major focus of The Business Forum, now and in the future, is the support of the Shop Solana First campaign. The Business Forum will maintain, for example, a current list of all Solana Beach businesses on its website.

An important feature of this site is its outreach to everyone who has a stake in Solana Beach.  The Business Forum invites everyone to join in the discussions.  Discussion subjects will range from matters of specific interest or concern to the business community to discussions about issues that may have originated in the business community but which are of interest to the City as a whole.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Connecting our Neighborhood:

It has become apparent to The 101 Group that there is now widespread interest and excitement about the future of the 101 corridor.  Among those interested are condo owners and other residents west of Highway 101 who see 101 as their immediate “neighborhood.”  Other interested parties include those who rent offices or retail space along 101.

Clearly it is not possible to include everyone in periodic group meetings. Instead, an “Electronic Meeting Place” will serve in its place.

How you can participate:

The 101 Group has created a Public Bulletin Board. Monthly or so, a short piece on a specific topic will be posted and comment invited.  Topics may include downtown parking, signage,  a“Shop Solana” campaign, among other subjects.

We invite those visiting the site to take an active part in discussing these topics, either by commenting on the topic itself or responding to the comments of others.

We look forward to your active involvement in discussing issues of common interest to all of us.

In addition to the Forum Section there will be two other Sections.

NEWS AND EVENTS

In addition to the e-Forum discussion opportunity described above, a news section will also be included.  The news section will use community input on what is or will be happening in Solana Beach, with specific focus on 101 issues.  Contributors will include, but are not limited to, Dave Carroll of the Chamber of Commerce; John Crawford of COUSA; Nadine Frymann & Brian Fuller for the 101 businesses, Tom Hart for the timeshare and hotel community; and Carl Turnbull for the business community in general. Dave Fletcher, the e-Forum webmaster, will act as the general editor.

A “Shop Solana” Locator

Finally, we will be creating an e-directory and map showing Solana businesses, beginning with Solana restaurants.  All restaurants will be listed with their address and phone number.  In addition, by clicking on the restaurant name a user will be able to access a menu if one has been supplied by that restaurant. Other business categories will be added in the future.

It is our intention to explore linking this site with other sites such as the Chamber of Commerce and the City of Solana Beach.

We look forward to your comments and your questions.
